Are Lulus Dresses Good Quality?
To experiment with Lulus dress quality, we purchased two random dresses anonymously to assess how accurate their product description was in comparison to how they looked in real life, the quality and feel of the fabric used and the attention to detail in the finishings like the stitching, hemlines and zippers. We also assessed how comfortable the dress is to wear, as well how easy it is to maintain.
Both dresses corresponded almost perfectly to their respective product page details. Below we’ve included an image of how the dress looked on the website and how they looked on in real life.
One dress arrived with a small mark on the inside strap, which could have happened during manufacturing or when someone else was trying it on.
It was not easy to spot, so we could understand how it wasn’t immediately spotted during quality control.
When we contacted Lulus about it, their customer service was very obliging and offered a full refund. More on customer service later.
We purchased both a synthetic fabric and a natural fabric to evaluate the quality of both. The nylon fabric was surprisingly thick even when unlined and weighty giving it a beautiful flow when walking.
It would sometimes stick to the skin with some static but you could visibly tell that the fabric was good quality from the way it dropped and moved around the body.
The cotton dress was fully lined and felt very delicate and authentic. The cotton was slightly brushed with a waffle texture that was very soft to the touch.
The weight of the fabric was perfectly balanced to be light and breathable while still structured enough to hold its shape and silhouette.
Stitching was generally good quality and consistent throughout the dress. There were a few small stray threads along some seams around the zipper but otherwise the hemlines were very clean and zippers had no ruching or bumps.
Both dresses were very comfortable to wear with adjustable straps for a more customized fit, the silhouettes were well-designed and you could tell they were made to flatter the female figure.
The fact that the cotton dress was fully lined gave peace of mind that it wasn’t see-through, unlike many other brands that don’t bother to take this extra step.
Are Lulus Dresses True to Size?
Both Lulus dresses that we purchased ran very true to size in terms of both length and fit around the torso and matched almost perfectly with the sizing guide that was supplied in the product description.
The product pages included an incredible amount of detail regarding the size and fit of the garments, which we found really helpful for managing expectations about the dress before it arrived.
You can even filter the reviews based on the size you’re looking and then see even further detail about the height and the body measurements of the reviewer to see if there is anything important that sticks out.
In our experience there are very few companies that go into this much detail regarding size and fit, and if all else fails, they give you the option to chat with a live agent to ask any questions you may have.
Lulus caters to many different body shapes and sizes from XS to 3X. They make every effort to provide a detailed and easy to use size guide in inches and centimeters for each piece to help you choose the right size.
It’s important to note that the structured dress styles or certain dress features may be more restrictive if you have particular body features that are smaller or larger than average.
This is true for any dress style that has more structured elements like long sleeves, pencil skirt or structured shoulder details because these will affect the fit of the dress a lot depending on your body shape.
If you have wider hips, shorter legs, broader shoulders or a larger bust than average it’s important to be aware of these measurements before you buy or opt for a very loose fitting dress to be completely safe.
The high quality of Lulus dresses also means that you can get them altered easily without them falling apart, so if there is a dress that you absolutely love, you can have it tailored to fit your body like a glove.

Shopping at Lulus is super easy, while they don’t have a physical store their online catalogue is so well organized and navigable that you can tailor your search so specifically to find exactly what you’re looking for.

We placed our Lulus order on February 21, we then received an email confirmation on February 23 to say that the dresses had been dispatched and we received the parcel on February 28. That means the process took 7 days in total including 2 days for turn around and 5 days in transit.
Considering that our package was delivered to Europe, it’s likely that shipping times within the USA take a shorter period of time. The dresses arrived neatly folded in transparent plastic coverings and then inside an opaque black plastic envelope.
Lulus offers a return window of 21 days if you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase. The return shipping is free for US orders as long as you use the shipping label they provide you with but each returned item has a $2 restocking fee.
The returns process is super simple, all you have to do is log into your account, initiate return, enter the order no. and print your return label to attach to your parcel.
Contacting Lulus customer service is very easy. They offer a live chat during business hours, an email service and a help center where you can find quick answers to common questions.
We got an email response from them within 48 hours of contacting them and they were very responsive, polite and forthcoming with details.
