When something feels like a steal, it’s natural to wonder if there’s a catch. How can they offer such low prices while still delivering quality?
Online forums are filled with mixed reviews—some rave about great deals, while others warn of inconsistent sizing and unexpected delays.
But when the prices are this low, it’s worth asking if you’re truly getting a bargain or just setting yourself up for disappointment.
That’s where we come in.
By the end, you’ll have a clearer picture of whether Temu is the next best-kept fashion secret or just another online shopping gamble so, keep reading to find out if Temu is the right place for your next haul.
What kind of store is Temu?
Temu is an online marketplace known for offering extremely budget-friendly fashion, accessories, and everyday items. It provides quality products at prices that rival fast-fashion and budget retailers like Shein and H&M.
Temu stands out due to its vast selection, competitive pricing, and features such as a 90-day return policy, seamless app-based shopping, and frequent discounts. From trendy streetwear to wardrobe basics, it covers a wide range of styles and categories.
You can find almost any item of clothing or fashion accessories you can think of for men, women and children but you can also find everyday household and decor items making it a convenient place to get all your shopping done in one place.
Temu Quality: Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
To test Temu product quality and shopping experience, we purchased a large number of clothing items from different categories in one single order including 3 dresses, a jumper, heels, jewelry and dancewear.
Below, we assess how accurate their product description was overall in comparison to how they looked in real life, the typical quality and feel of the fabric used and the general attention to detail in the finishings like the stitching, hemlines and zippers.
We also assessed how comfortable the items were to wear. If you are interested in knowing the full details, we have included a link to a video review of each item so that this blog isn’t too long.
So let’s have a look at how the items performed.
Yes, the Temu products we purchased matched very well with their respective product page photos and details. Below is a comparison of each item of clothing in the original product photos online and in real life and styled up.
Some product photos can make an item look smaller or larger than it is in real life so you should look closer at the measurements to know exactly what you’re getting. It doesn’t seem that they do this deliberately but it seems like it happens naturally when photographing items.
The color of some Temu items we received didn’t exactly match the product photos but this is to be expected when comparing real natural light to professionally lit product photographs so don’t be surprised if your item isn’t exactly the same shade as in the pictures.
Yes, the Temu items we received were good to very good quality, particularly when considering the price point. A lot of the clothing is made of synthetic fabrics like polyester or acrylic but they don’t feel too flimsy or lower quality at all (the majority anyway).
Each item we purchased felt well-made and definitely didn’t look like they were cheaply knock offs or scams. They felt comparable to the type of quality you can get at some high street stores like H&M or Zara for less than half the price.
One item that didn’t quite hit the mark was the satin pyjamas set. The fabric felt very plastic even though it had a soft sheen finish on the outside. It looked like satin but it definitely didn’t feel like satin.
This pyjamas set is still easy to wear if you don’t mind the fabric then it should be fine. Ultimately, the quality of each item you get will vary, but overall, our order was higher quality than expected, especially if you don’t mind wearing synthetic fabrics at a great price point.
Generally, the stitching was quite good on all garments. The seams were nice and tight and the hemlines were even and secured with double blanket stitches while single stitch details were quite straight and uniform. Zippers were well fixed and didn’t move about when pulling making it easy to not do any damage.
Every now and again there was a single loose thread that didn’t get finished and was sticking out but it wasn’t a major problem. We just cut it back with scissors and it never unravelled.
The jewelry and shoes also felt sturdy and well assembled. There was nothing loose, frayed or wonky about the design at all without any traces of glue or stitches that would give it away and make it look cheaply made.
The sequins on the dress and sleeveless top were so secure that not even one sequin fell onto the floor or came off when touching it. The silhouettes and design of the dresses we purchased can rival some of the more expensive dress brands we love.
Most items were very comfortable to wear with no itchiness or chafing for example. The fabrics in general were quite soft and weren’t uncomfortable, tight or too loose anywhere.
The sequin dress could irritate very sensitive skin on your arms but it did have a very smooth fabric lining underneath the dress which made it very comfortable to wear.
While the heels were well-made and sturdy, they feel a bit rigid in the beginning and may take a bit of time to break in and get used to.
The jewelry was very comfortable to wear with no irritation or reactions on the skin even though it is fashion jewelry. The knitted jumper was very soft and not itchy at all, with plenty of stretch around the sleeves and neck.
Yes, the Temu items we purchased ran very true to size in terms of both what we expected from a size “S” or “M” and in terms of the measurements that were supplied on the product description including the bust, waist, hips and height etc.
Temu product pages include details regarding the size and fit of the garments, which can be really helpful for managing expectations.
This size guide provides measurement details of each available size and you can even switch between inches and centimetres. Watch this short video to see how to find size details on Temu.
Temu items also have a size rating system where you can see how many of the reviewers found that the item was either true to size, smaller or larger than expected.
If you’re not sure about the size, pay attention to whether the item has elastane or spandex in the fabric composition as this usually means it will have a good amount of stretch.
How is Temu’s Shopping Experience?
Shopping at Temu is quite easy, they don’t have a physical store but the online catalogue is well organized and navigable on desktop and mobile so that you can tailor your search to browse for what you’re looking for.
The Temu website has high level categories, subcategories and then it allows you to set numerous filters to find what style, color or type you’re looking for.
The product pages high-quality images let you see each dress up close, so you can check out all the little details before making a decision.
It can be addictive because of its endless scroll feature. But the good news is the more you shop at Temu, the better it gets at recommending things you’ll love.
One thing that might get annoying are the pop ups but they usually promote an offer, a flash sale or a huge coupon bundle that you can use later.
You can easily save items on Temu for later buy clicking into the product page and scrolling to the product details section under the reviews. The save button is to the right of the “Product Details” title with a little heart icon.
This is so useful because the more you use the app or website, the more products you see that you want to buy but aren’t fully decided yet. This is a feature that makes the website a lot more usable.
Ordering items on Temu is super easy and straightforward particularly if you get the Temu app and do your shopping through that platform.
The Temu shopping app is really easy to use and connects you directly to Temu’s wide range of products with exclusive app deals and discounts. (There is a Temu app for Android and for iOS and is completely safe to use as long as you get it from the official site)
They have many different payment options, including Google Pay, PayPal, Visa, American Express, and even international methods like Klarna, Twint and Afterpay.
However, in the app they also have 1-click payments, which skips the checkout process altogether and just sends your order with the click of a button.
Most Temu discounts get applied automatically or can be switched in and out through your account. Once your order is placed, they send you a tracking link where you can see what stage your order is at.
The tracking information may lack a little detail like the current location but it’s updated each day allowing you to see the progress.
We placed our Temu order on November 13, we then received an email confirmation and tracking number on November 14 to say that the parcel had been dispatched but received a second email on November 21 to say our parcel had been transferred to our local post provider (Ascendia) for delivery which meant it had already arrived in our country.
We finally received the first part of our order at our delivery address on November 22. We received 13 out of the 16 items we ordered because 3 items were being shipped in a separate parcel and hadn’t arrived yet.
That means Temu delivered our parcel in 9 days total including 1 day for turn around and 8 days for transit. The second part of our order arrived on Nov 23, which means it took 10 days.
Considering that our package was delivered to Europe, it’s likely that shipping times to the USA take a similar period of time depending on what you order.
Temu’s shipping update system is one of the best we’ve seen around. They email you each step of the way to let you know what’s happening with your parcels.
The emails we received gave us updates on in-transit updates, out for delivery updates and a final update when the parcel was delivered. It felt like they knew exactly where the parcel was at all times which was very reassuring.
In fact, Temu offers you credit if your order arrives more than 48 hours late, a refund if you don’t receive a shipping update in 15 days AND a refund if your parcel is still not marked as delivered after 30 days.
Temu also gives you the option to add shipping insurance to your order at the checkout which insures your parcel against damage or loss and it’s a good idea if you’re buying a bulk order or if you’re buying something that is higher value.
When the parcel arrived, a lot of our items were placed into one large opaque plastic delivery bag with a lot of sellotape around the opening (as it was probably opened by customs).
However, everything inside was in perfect condition, even the shoe boxes were only slightly dented on the corners. The clothes arrived very neatly folded in transparent plastic zip lock bags, the shoes arrived in boxes with a dust covering on each shoe, and the jewelry arrived in sealed plastic sachets.
You can watch a short video to see the full Temu unboxing so you know what to expect.
Temu offers a return or exchange window of 90 days if you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase.
You can have one free return per order and they provide you with a return shipping label so you don’t have to pay for return shipping costs either. Even if you have multiple items to return, as long as you register them for return at the same time, then you won’t have to pay any fees.
We returned two items so that we could test the process, (but otherwise we were happy to keep them). Initiating the return was super simple and all we had to do was select which items we wanted to return, explain our reason why, print the shipping label, attach it to our parcel and drop it off at the local post office.
The process couldn’t have been more straightforward and easy. It gave us the option to receive our refund as Temu credit which would be added almost immediately but we chose to have the refund sent to our original payment method to test it out.
We initiated the return on Nov 23, posted our parcel on Nov 25 and by Nov 30 (5 days later) we received the full refund back in our account.
Contacting Temu customer service is relatively straightforward.
They don’t have an email address or phone number you can contact directly for customer support but they do have a support center where they answer the most frequently asked questions and a live chat.
The live chat feature does seem to be managed by a bot at first and takes a second or two to respond but if you ask to speak to an agent and there is one available they will put you through directly to the Temu team.
We can’t be sure if it actually is a human you’re speaking to but in our experience they were very helpful and responsive.
Even the chatbot provided comprehensive information. It took a second or two to respond but it was very good at directing us with clear instructions even before we spoke to someone.

“Temu is a legit e-commerce website, the same as Amazon. It’s NOT a scam. I have ordered things twice on Temu, and so far so good. No problems with refunds or missing items. The received products are of good quality and cost less compared to other e-commerce websites. Fast shipping as well—within a week. Will continue to buy from Temu, no doubt. Cust. Service: 5 stars.“—Nico, USA
“Temu has some Very unique items that you don’t see in stores. I’ve ordered quite a few sweaters and they have all been good quality and fit perfectly. Love Temu. Shipping is pretty quick, orders are shipped out quite fast. Any issues I’ve had with Temu have always made it right. Lots Of christmas home decor stuff. I really enjoy shopping on Temu”—Carrie, Canada
“The quality of the products is usually good especially if you consider the price. You need to read the description for sizes and composition of materials or else products are smaller than suggested or synthetic. Clothes have labels, with few exceptions. Returns are easy and refund is fast.“—Annelies, Netherlands
“Just received my first ever order from Temu on the recommendation of a family member. Having read mixed reviews I was unsure what to expect but ended up being pleasantly surprised. Really good value overall, all well packaged, swiftly despatched, timely communication provided by customer services and each item appears to be as described, of high standard and good quality (I’m normally super fussy, critical and scrutinize everything). Based on this experience, I would definitely order again.”—Linda, USA
“I love this website. I know some of the things are a bit tacky but I’ve had some really good bargains. Polyester dressing gowns are gorgeous and look expensive. I’ve had several jumpers all fit lovely and love the V neck with the lacy sleeves it looks so classy on, l will be buying more colours.“—Trisha, UK
“I have been using Temu for a while now and I can honestly say it’s my favourite online website. Yes some things are not great but you can easily send them back for a refund. However I have bought so many goods that I love to bits. Their customer service online is responsive and in my opinion really good. Very happy I made the move from another well known Chinese website that had just awful customer service and was more expensive.”—Shae, UK
